Sweet Leaf Tea Recalled, Glass Fragments Found

1.5 million bottles of Sweet Leaf Tea recalled after receiving four complaints of glass floating in drinks

The issue was the result of glass breakage during the bottle filling process, according to company.

Some customers that were looking to quench their thirst with Sweet Leaf Tea found something unexpected instead: glass fragments.

The company received its first complaint regarding floating glass in the tea in July. Sweet Leaf spokeswoman Jane Lazgin told NBC News Sweet Leaf, “believed it to be an isolated incident until hearing from three others more recently. It is upon the four complaints we felt it was prudent to recall the product to assure that Sweet Leaf is a safe and high quality tea product.”

In the recall, Sweet Leaf says, “As a precautionary measure, we are voluntarily recalling a limited number of our 16 ounce glass bottles of Sweet Leaf Tea, because of the possible presence of glass fragments.” According to Sweet Leaf, no injuries were reported, and the presence of glass fragments was the result of glass breakage during the filling process.

The recall applies to specific bottles distributed between February 27, 2015 and December 6, 2015. Lazgin says, “We believe most of those bottles are already out of the marketplace.”
